Any fan of comics should check out the animated
Samurai Jack, from The Cartoon Network. The episodes are on Netflix now, and they are a great example of how animated on a limited budget can still look very cool when the art design and direction are working together. The battle scenes are exciting and Phil LaMarr's voice work is perfect for the character. I'd love to see some more adventures of this time-displaced warrior.
I have been hoping for an Animated Batman team-up.
ReplyDeleteThis is very cool!
Another thing about thing about Samurai Jack is the efficiency of storytelling. Dialogue and exposition are very limited, and so much is told with just the visuals and sound design.
ReplyDeleteBeen revisiting it lately on Toonami, and it holds up amazingly well.

Dave, this is actually my 2nd animated Batman cover - first one was a Batman/Tigra way back in my B&B days.
ReplyDeleteThis is a team-up I'd love to see.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever done an all Jack cover?
Jack of Hearts, Jack Sparrow, Samurai Jack, Jack of Fables, etc.
Yeah, Samurai Jack was a great cartoon! The writing was wonderful. Art, too. Everything worked.
ReplyDeleteIt's cool to find out people still remember it.
Phil LaMarr as Jack was great, but for my money, what made it was the voice of Aku (Mako, who also was the wizard in the Arnold "Conan" movies and Uncle Iroh in Avatar: the Last Airbender.)
ReplyDelete"Long ago in a distant land, I, Aku, the shapeshifting master of darkness, unleashed an unspeakable evil. But, a foolish Samurai warrior, wielding a magic blade, stepped forth to oppose me. Before the final blow was struck, I tore open a portal in time, and flung him into the future, where my word is Law! Now the fool seeks to return to the past, to undo the future that is Aku!"
Every so often the Samurai Jack theme song gets stuck in my head... WA-CHA!!
ReplyDeleteTwo of the coolest animated series o all time! This is a great idea!
ReplyDeleteSuch a team-up would have rocked on BATMAN: THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD!
ReplyDeleteYES! YES! YES! YES! YES!
