Scarlett Johanssen's Black Widow is an interesting case. The super-spy has been fleshed out onscreen as a supporting character in three separate superhero franchises, becoming as big a star as the heroes that have had their own self-titled movies. Can a Black Widow solo film be far behind? I imagine she would have some cool guest stars of her own if such a film comes to pass. Or will she be relegated to supporting star in a Nick Fury film first?
I would hope that Black Widow/ScarJo breaks through that glass ceiling.
ReplyDeleteI think I was reading some rumor around "Die Another Day" that female leads do not do well at the box office. That was the explanation for no "Jinx" spin-off film. I think Angelina Jolie does pretty well selling movie tickets...
I, too, would love to see that rule shattered, and Scarlett might just be the woman for the job.
ReplyDeleteAnother pair of characters used for the New Amalgam Comics project--'Tasha and Ms. Bertinelli were mixed to make the Matron, a member of Task Force S (Task Force X/SHIELD) and a founding member of the Ladybirds (the Birds of Prey/the Lady Liberators). She also had an ex-fiance in the form of the Star Guardian (Red Star/Red Guardian), a member of Global Flight (The Global Guardians /Alpha Flight).
