Cyborg and Colossus
I recently watched the animated Justice League :War, based on the New 52 version of the team. I had only read the first issue of the new run so I was not sure what to expect. While there were some good action sequences, I would have to rate it as one of DC's less enjoyable animated movies, definitely the weakest of their JLA efforts. What killed it for me was all the odd decisions - the weird characterizations of Superman, Wonder Woman and especially Green Lantern made them unlikable to me. Wonder Woman's costume redesign was just ugly. The use of adult language seemed out of place and arbitrary as well. It was my first exposure to Cyborg as a member of the group, and I didn't mind him there. Still, I miss his relationships with his fellow new Teen Titans members, and I hope that aspect of the character isn't gone for good.
I haven't seen the animated version, but I read the first full arc of the New 52 JLA, and I agree with everything you said. I've been a JLA fan since the Silver Age, and followed the team through good times and bad (except for JLA Detroit, which was awful), but for me the new version read like bad fan fiction.
ReplyDeleteI've said this before, but since the passing of Dwayne McDuffie(RIP), DC animation truly fell off. I have not enjoyed anything that they have since put out. Its all been so subpar. Truly, McDuffie was the heart and soul of the animation division.
ReplyDeleteRoss,
ReplyDeleteThanks for watching Justice League: War so I do not have to! Greatly appreciated!
I read the first arc of Justice League. I've also been re-reading Dini and Ross' series of over-sized graphic novels. I really enjoy "Liberty and Justice" and the "Justice" series. It's a shame that DC went in the opposite direction from that.
Justice League: War broke my heart it was so unbelievably bad. I echo the sentiment of every bad review. I hope the next Son of Batman release washes the bad taste out of my mouth!
