Krypto and Lockheed

Superhero pets probably don't make a lot of sense but I just don't care because they are just so cool to me.  I've always loved costumed heroes and I am a life long animal lover so that's really not much of a surprise.  Of course my cat Sweetie's only power seems to be to sense the presence of ice cream anywhere in her vicinity.  Not much use in combat situations, but she's still super to me.

  1. If there can be a Robin, The Boy Wonder and a Jimmy Olsen, there can be a Krypto and Ace, The Bat-Hound!

  2. I always get a special kick out of your covers which feature Krypto! One idea I've had for my own "Comics They Never Made" feature at my own blog has been for a long time has been to create a "lost" Showcase cover featuring Krypto teaming up with the other dogs running around in DC comics back in the day (or maybe even all the other pets... membership could include Bathound, Streaky, Rex the Wonder Dog, Detective Chimp, among many others), but I've not been able to come up with a good team name for them!

  3. The three Superboy issues (#131, 132, and 136) featuring Krypto and the SCPA (Space Canine Patrol Agents) were among my first comic books, and I have a special nostalgic fondness for them. I was surprised and gladdened when they returned after forty years (as the "Dog Stars") in the Krypto animated cartoon.

  4. Oddly, I was thinking about this exact pairing yesterday afternoon after stumbling across a Wikipedia page listing all "animal superheroes." Most on that list are either funny-animal types (like Captain Carrot's Zoo Crew, or the Disney superheroes) or uplifted beasts; only a few were just plain animals with superpowers. Of that small group, these two struck me as the "flagship super-beasts" from each of the Big Two.

My answer to the question on your cover: Plenty.

This story looks like it'd be a fun romp with plenty of both humor and drama, exploring the powers and intellects of both of the main characters. Something in my memory tells me that Lockheed would be able to read Krypto's thoughts, which would make for some interesting interactions.

  5. Ross:
600+ issues and counting, and this is even after all your previous blogs!
Time and Time again I keep wishing that more inter-company crossovers were possible, but your work does fill the gap nicely. Just wish I could go to my local comic book store and actually pick up some of these issues...
Anyway, hoping to see a Mister Peabody and Sherman team up sometime. Otherwise, keep up the great work!

  6. There's a Mr. Peabody film coming out so maybe there'll be more images to choose from.

  7. I once had a cat who had the uncanny ability to sense when you went to the fridge to get some cheese. It was some sort of precognition. He didn't care if you went to get rice or mashed potatoes juice or anything else, but if you planned to get cheese, he was there, rubbing against your legs, when you put your hand on the door handle.
