The Flash Enters The Marvel Universe
Company-wide crossovers are so commonplace today that it is easy to forget how fun it was when Crisis on Infinite Earths and Secret Wars first hit the stands. In retrospect, the convoluted plots and aftermaths of these series can be debated, but there's no denying the cool factor of having so many characters together in one big sprawling epic, illustrated by masters like Mike Zeck and George Perez. In the pre-internet age, the tie-ins that promoted each series were much more effective than they would in these spoiler filled days. DC's comics featured mysterious red skies and a shadowed figure working with the villains of Earth. Marvel had their heroes enter a strange stadium, disappear, and return with the changes that would happen within the upcoming mini-series. Both of these build ups had me eagerly anticipating the crossovers, and I could not read each issue that came out fast enough.
Of course the Flash really did enter the Marvel Universe in the JLA/Avengers crossover, only to be thrown right back when the Speed Force ceased to operate for him.
ReplyDeleteOf course, that fact does not diminish this cover more than a tiny bit. It's very well-done.
Equally exciting would be for you to run a twelve-issue Secret Crisis, featuring company-wide crossovers of DC, Marvel, and everyone else!
And while I'm on, even though it's a bit early, have you given any thought to what you'll do as STF #1000 comes around?
It happens that there is an upcoming cover with the story title "Secret Crisis"...
ReplyDeletePlenty of anniversary issues before #1000, I have some ideas in mind though.
Actually, The Flash entered the Marvel Universe in "Quasar", as "Buried Alien" (or something) :D
ReplyDeleteRemember the first time Spidey appeared in his black costume on the cover of Secret Wars? I didn't collect Marvel, but I rushed to get that issue, but it was sold out in all the candy stores, groceries and newstands that day. Kid's were auctioning off copies they brought in the schoolyard for days. Ahhh, the '80's!!
ReplyDeleteThis is clearly a sequel to the Quasar series :D "Buried Alien" gets his memory back and takes on the Marvel Universe. I'd read the hell out of this one :)
ReplyDeleteOh no, Dan Didio has followed the Flash to the Marvel Universe!
ReplyDeleteI like how the Speed Force doesn't work in the Marvel Universe.
ReplyDeleteSpider-Man's black costume was awesome...until it became a symbiote and Venom...
LMAO @ BollWeevil!
ReplyDelete@BollWeevilPrime - It's funny 'cuz it's true!
ReplyDeleteHa! That's MY Flash!
ReplyDeleteAnd a great Flash it is!
ReplyDelete@Bob Greenwade: Sometime thereafter, of course, he returned to the Marvel Universe on a permanent basis...as "Un-buried Alien."
