Usually I want film versions of comic characters to look as close to the source material as possible, but in the case of Electro for
The Amazing Spider-Man 2, I can understand the need for a change. I like the old lightning bolt mask on a nostalgic level, but there's no way that would work in live action. The pictures released of a blue, glowing with energy Jamie Foxx look pretty cool to me. Spider-Man's costume is a huge improvement over the one he wore in the first film, hopefully the script to the sequel will be an improvement as well.
Awesome work Ross, with my favorite Black Lightning!! (..but you need a copy editor/intern bro, "love action?? lets keep this site professional, please ;o)
ReplyDeleteA while back someone proposed a team-up between Ghost and Deadman. I think we've just found who they can work against: Thanos!
ReplyDeleteI would argue that Black Lightning is one of the landmark new characters, right up there with Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and Captain (Shazam!) Marvel. I'd put him there with Plastic Man, Hawkman and The Flash as far as originality. Okay, so he's not as big a deal as Black Panther, but still...It's a shame that he's not enjoyed a higher profile.
ReplyDeleteI think this new "The Amazing Spider-Man" is like the difference between Sean Connery and Roger Moore as James Bond. I'm not saying Tobey Maguire is Sean Connery - except, that he was the first to play the part on film. Nicholas Hammond was no Sean Connery either. But this new Spider-Man captures the humor and madcap fun of being Spider-Man the way Moore winked at the absurdity of Bond. Hopefully the new Spider-Man films will capture more of the spirit of the comics than the first trilogy...
Love the covers, Ross! I normally view them via RSS feed, so don't get much opportunity to comment, but I wanted to let you know that your efforts are very much appreciated!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
ReplyDeleteAirDave, it's nice to see someone else who still calls Black Lightning a "new" character, even though he's been around for 37 years now. Us old-timers have to stick together.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with the modification of Electro's look. The green-and-gold costume that makes him resemble Reddy Kilowatt's Evil Twin is fine in the comic books and animated cartoons. But, in a high-tech, live-action, big budget feature? Nah-uh!
ReplyDeleteMaking Max Dillon resemble the comic version of the Shocker, with that protective anti-hazmat suit, is definitely more plausible.
