Justice League of America And D-Man

Not everyone who decides to become a superhero would really be cut out for it, so D-Man (or Demolition Man) was a nice change.  Here was a guy who clearly aspired to be part of the big leagues, but was always in their shadow.  Unfortunately, what began as a fun character eventually took a dark turn.  D-Man was shown to be more and more unstable, eventually joining the Revengers, being manipulated into become the new Scourge, and finally killed off.  Kind of a depressing end to a character that could have been enjoyable to follow.

  1. Ha! There's a fun cover!

I have a hard time believing that it's the complete fault of a writer what happens to a character. Some writers just aren't a fit and some ideas just don't work. I would tend to blame an editor for not stepping in and stopping a writer from breaking character. Killing a character, or warping a character's personality beyond recognition is no answer. If a writer doesn't like a character, then don't use him or her in the story. If a copyright needs to be maintained, create a story that fits the character.

Fer instance, I'd rather not see a Jack Knight story than to see a BAD Jack Knight story.

  5. it really is unfortunate what happened to poor Dennis Dunphy.

and as much as i really enjoyed Brubaker's run on Captain America, it's pretty awful how he used the old supporting cast as fodder-- first with Nomad and then Demolition Man. i was nervous for Diamondback when she started appearing in the book, but she made it out relatively unscathed.
