Just as with some of my Marvel/Star Wars covers, this is a pairing that does not seem as far fetched as it once would have. DC countered the criticism of creating prequels for Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons' Watchmen by wisely stacking the deck with some of the very best creators working in comics today. If you are going to attempt such a controversial product, that's the way to do it.

ReplyDeleteI liked the Watchmen film. I'm not a big fan of the series or the material, but I'll sit down and re-read it once in a while. For me Watchmen sucks all the fun out of comics with realism. Not that James Robinson didn't do something similar in Starman and The Golden Age...it just seemed presented differently.
I'm not sure how excited I am about The Man of Steel film. I've pretty much become less and less interested in DC's characters. I'll take the older books that I remember growing up with over what's being published today.

ReplyDeleteI thought all of the Watchmen prequel books were really great. I love Alan Moore and he is no doubt a genius of this time, but like many geniuses, he's a bit of a crackpot too! Get over yourself, Alan! At the end of the day, these are just "picture books." Awesome cover Ross! Hope it inspires DC to put out a real one!!!!
