Beavis & Butt-Head and The Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers

I got  some laughs out of Beavis and Butt-Head whn they first appeared, so I checked out their recent revival out of curiosity.  I must admit that I found myself laughing out loud quite a bit, and I think I enjoyed the new episodes more than the original ones.  I'm hoping that another season is in the works.

I remember seeing underground comix for the first time and them making quite an impression on me.  I was still young enough that the sex and drug humor went right over my head for the most part, but just the fact that it showed a broader diversity of artistic styles and subject matter than what I was used to really opened up my eyes as to what illustrated storytelling could be.  I think we could definitely use some subversive heroes like the Freak Brothers these days.

  3. This is weird; I was reading some old undergrounds yesterday, trying to come up with a more efficient way to organize them, since many are one-shot anthologies. I found some early issues of "Slow Death Funnies" with early Richard Corben. Speaking of Gilbert Shelton, I'm sure Wonder Warthog would work well with a number of super-heroes if you haven't used him already. Captain Carrot and company would be perfect but I'm pretty sure you've used some of them before. Mr. Natural and the Ancient One? Devil Girl vs. Satanna? Spain just passed away; perhaps his revolutionary characters could face off with/against Wild Dog or the Punisher?

  5. I'd like to see Captain Carrot and the Zoo Crew with Spiderham and Howard the Duck in a DC/Marvel crossover.

  7. OOH! How could I have missed the obvious? Why not "Binky Brown Meets Warrior Nun Areala"? You could probably do a whole team of funky nuns, with Areala, Knuckles the Malevolent Nun, the Leather Nun, Evangeline and Bloody Mary (from DC/Helix).

  11. @Ross-- Justin Green released "Binky Brown Meets The Holy Virgin Mary" in the early 70's after incubating throughout the 60's. Right after that came Dave Sheridan's "Tales From The Leather Nun". "Binky" is definitely the more historically significant, but Sheridan was able to get back-up stories from Crumb and Spain, so his went into multiple printings.

"Evangeline" was published by Comico and First in the 80's. "Knuckles" was by Roger Langridge circa 1990. I think Areala started as a Ben Dunn character in the early 90's for Antarctic (?) and "Bloody Mary" (and all the Helix titles) was from the late 90's. By that time two-fisted nuns had become their own meme.

  12. @Ross - I'd say team up all those Nun characters with Cardinal Sin (an obscure character that DC came up with during that whole Blood Pack fiasco).
