Martian Manhunter and Iron Man
I read some interesting comments by Zach Snyder yesterday that seemed to indicate that Man of Steel would indeed be tied into the eventual Justice League film and that Henry Cavill would be the Superman of that franchise as well. Snyder said that to divulge more would be to spoilerish... so perhaps there will be seeds for the JLA movie in Man of Steel? If Warner Brothers were to take their cues from the First Iron Man movie and include a post credits scene to tease that larger DC Universe, I think The Martian Manhunter might be a good candidate for a cameo. It could be something as simple as a reveal of J'onn trapped in a government facility and the feds not wanting Superman to know of his existence. While I would love to see a Solo Martian Manhunter film, his is the most unlikely to get one out of the original seven JLAers. It might make better sense if his back story was woven into the JLA's origin, just as it was in the animated series.
I think a JLA film should be the "reverse" of the Avengers. The JLA movie should begin "mis en scene", with the members already established, in the middle of a full blown adventure/battle: Superman, (rebooted Batman), Wonder Woman, Flash, (rebooted) Green Lantern, Cyborg, Black Canary, and Martian Manhunter. The origins of who they are and how they got together could be hinted at throughout the film (like they currently do in series like Lost or Walking Dead) which would also set the stage for their solo films. JLA 2 could be the "origin" film. Just sayin ;o)
ReplyDeleteYou know there's a symbol for 'Man' which is a circle with a small arrow attached by the tail to the circle's upper-right edge, pointing away from the center. That's both the chemical symbol for 'iron' and the astronomical symbol for Mars. Even the arrow is a symbol for 'hunter'. One symbol links everything about this team-up.
ReplyDeleteOne of your best covers yet! Nice choice on both figures...they blend well. Most impressive!
ReplyDeleteVery good !
ReplyDeleteSweet combination! I've seen that Maguire cover reprinted so many times that it's delightfully jarring to have it recontextualized. Alan Davis mingles well.
ReplyDeleteMarvel's getting their Avengers out first puts Warner Brothers in a defensive position. If they use a big green Martian, regardless of who came first in the comics, he's a Hulk rip-off. If they have an African-American quietly pull the team together, like on Smallville, John Jones is still considered a Nick Fury rip-off. If Jones is white, Warner has to reach out to another hero to fill the racial quota, one area where the JLA ironically has an opportunity to one-up Avengers. That's the Martian Manhunter's best shot at getting into frame, since black guy + technology = War Machine. Unless Green Lantern or the Flash go black, an ethnic Martian brings diversity, if he gets brought in at all.
You did so well on this one I can't really tell what was altered.
ReplyDeleteThis has to be your best cover to date. As for Superman, I am not really looking forward to the movie. Too many changes to the character in the books and I hear they will be in the movie also. They are making the character too dark. Superman is suppose to be the bright and shining star that lights the way for other superheroes. As far as him starting the JLA movie it seems kind of after the fact. "Hey Iron Man was a hit that lead up to the Avengers. Let's cram some JLA stuff into this movie and do the samething." It could be one big mess. But I may be wrong.
ReplyDeleteWho would I have to bribe or blackmail to make this team up a reality?
