Characters like The Black Knight and The Shining Knight are cool to me in that they can exist comfortably in multiple genres. I have enjoyed reading period pieces detailing their solo exploits as well as when they appeared alongside other heroes with The Seven Soldiers of Victory, The All-Star Squadron or The Avengers. Plus, they both have winged horses, which have seemed cool to me since my first viewing of Ray Harryhausen's work in
Clash of the Titans.
I'm surprised you didn't have Shining Knight square off with Dane's anscestor, Sir Percy of Scandia (the Atlas-era Black Knight).
ReplyDeleteSir Percy could always meet the Silent Knight in their own century while these two duke it out in the 20th or 21st Century. Or maybe ROM and the Spaceknights could meet the Atomic Knight? "You fool! That's not a giant dalmatian you're riding; it's a Dire Wraith with a bad sense of scale!"
ReplyDeletePlease forgive a bit of whininess, but you accidentally left the 'T' out of the name 'Dane Whitman'.
ReplyDeleteNice crossover!
ReplyDeleteBlack Knight needs a shadow...
I wonder if a nighttime background would make for a more dramatic scene?
The Black Knight is one of Marvel's best and most underrated creations. A scientist with a magic sword and mutated horse, a perverse and wonderful assembly of notions.
ReplyDeleteThey've tried to upgrade Dane Whitman's presence a few times, but it's taken hold. Love this cover image though.
Thanks.
Rip Off
Black Knight will always be one of the best Avengers in my opinion.
DeleteHave loved the Shining Knight since I discovered him in the pages of All-Star Squadron. Roy Thomas (once again) did a wonderful job writing him, and I liked how at the peak of WW2, Roy made him choose to return to the UK to be a defender of Britain at a time when she most needed him. Classic Roy Thomas. Hope to see a new version of him in Earth 2!
