Supergirl and Ms. Marvel

These are two characters that fit well together for many reasons. They are both blondes that go by the name Danvers who use use alien powers to battle crime on Earth. They are also both offshoots of a male counterpart and each has a pretty convoluted history for their respective publishers.  I imagine they would have a lot to talk about if they ever met... once they got past the obligatory fight scene, of course!

  1. They also both had Jim Mooney as their primary artist for many years.

  2. Another wise team up/fight! I like the way you think!

Ever think of crafting a vintage Bronze Age cover with first appearance Ms. Marvel and shorts-sporting Supergirl?

  5. Fred Hembeck did a parody of these two meeting in "Abbot and Costello Meet the Bride of Hembeck". As Hoy mentions above, the characters both talk about sharing Jim Mooney as a long-time illustrator. In the humorous piece the two DO cat-fight for a bit, then make up and become BFFs. Supergirl explains "Well, I'm just a copy of my cousin, and Ms. Marvel is just a copy of her Kree friend, who is just a copy of the Shazam Captain Marvel, who himself is also a copy of my cousin. The way we see it, we're ALL just copies of my cousin!"

  6. dude, you're wrong this supergirl is not Linda Danvers (Linda Danvers use the white t-shirt, and are not Kryptonian) she is Kara Zor-El AKA Linda Lang

  9. Yup... famed B&B writer Bob Haney is the patron saint of this blog, and his motto was "continuity be damned, let's just tell a fun story!"

  10. And both were pretty well run through the grinder by their publisher with Supergirl getting killed in COIE and Carol Danvers going through all manner of rough treatment.

  11. Gotta side with Reviewer DC on this one. To paraphrase St. Mark Gruenwald:

    "Continuity is everything."

  12. At this point, I’m not sure the Matrix version of Supergirl (introduced after the 1980s reboot, and current until Kara Zor-El was reintroduced in SUPERMAN/BATMAN circa 2005 or so) ever existed, with the various continuity reboots. However, prior to 1986 (and therefore at the time Ms. Marvel was introduced) Kara Zor-El had been placed in an orphanage as Linda Lee, then adopted by the Danvers family.

Hard to play a continuity card when the DC Universe is involved.
