Robin Vs. The Hulk (Part Two)
I have to admit I groaned a bit when Damian Wayne was introduced. There had already been three Robins and I felt that one more would continue to dilute the concept. Add to that the fact that he was written with a snotty attitude and I was turned off to the character. Grant Morrison and other writers were able to explain his behavior and have given him some depth, and made him a more likeable character to me, though. I still think there are too many Robins, especially with the newly stated 5-year young career of Batman... but I have to admit it is interesting to watch the dynamic between Damian and Bruce Wayne.
Dave sez,
ReplyDeleteVery cool cover!
I think that is the flaw in the armor of The New 52. It isn't a blank slate. Not sure if it was intended to be or not. But the seams just do not match up.
Right now, THE best The New 52 book, is Earth 2. What James Robinson did with the Trinity (Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman) was amazing and I'm excited to see what he does with Jay and Alan.
Oh, and Helena Wayne was the Robin of Earth-2...
I still want adult Dick Grayson in the gray 60's suit back!
ReplyDelete......we all have to move on, Ross. Warner Bros. is searching for more lucrative demographics.
ReplyDeleteMore sword and sorcery like Amethyst, Arak, Krull, The Claw, Fahfryd & the Gray Mouser, please!!!!!!
ReplyDeletethis is a excellent, clean job, can't tell when, how or where the MS PAINT began. You've gotten so good at this and your making it look so easy that fans are starting to take it for granted. Lets have another tutorial to remind us how excruciating this work can be.
ReplyDeleteWhen I saw part one of this combo, I thought part two would be Red Robin vs. Red Hulk...
ReplyDeleteAll cool.
Nancy - this cover is actually a peek into the future - I made it in Photoshop, which I recently switched over to. I have plenty of MS Paint covers yet to be posted, but this Photoshop one I presented out of order since it was a sequel to the earlier Robin/Hulk cover I did. The larger sized covers will become regular as of issue #138 and the Photoshop covers will start with issue #354.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more with your assessment of "Too many Robins". I really dislike the expansion of the Batman Family into its own mini-universe. I can't afford to buy infinite comics per month, and I really wish that there was just one or 2 Bat-titles. That would leave me free to buy other books that I used to enjoy. There is just so much coming out, that none of it seems special to me anymore. Really thinking the New52 will wind up being the end of my mainstream comic collecting (after 35 years).
ReplyDeleteEverything I'm seeing about DC's New 52 gives me a headache. I wish they'd just let things alone with the original multiverse. "Crisis on Infinite Earths" is deservedly a classic, but rebooting the entire setting every few years just causes problems -- like the "four Robins in five years" head-spinner you state here.
ReplyDeleteOn another topic... I like Marc's idea of "Red Robin vs. Red Hulk," and I hope you fly with it at some point.
or red hulk vs red and blue supermen
ReplyDeleteSomething along the lines of that last suggestion is coming up next week...
