Nightwing and Nightcrawler

I am split when it comes to Nightwing.  On one hand, it has been interesting to watch his evolution from teen sidekick to solo adult hero, which gives him an interesting perspective on things.  Then again, the aging and eventual abandonment of the Robin identity in New Teen Titans set forth a domino effect in the DCU.  By aging Dick Grayson, you had to age all the Teen Titans, which aged all of the mentors even more.  Before long we had multiple Robins, Kid Flashes, and Wonder Girls running around and things got a bit confusing and clunky.   I thought that some of the original sidekicks would be de-aged in the rebooted DCU when I heard that the characters were supposed to only have been around for five years, but now it makes even less sense to me now.  Batman has had 4 robins in five years?

Is Nightcrawler still dead?  I've seen solicitations recently which seem to include him but for all I know that  may be some alternate reality Kurt Wagner.  Sheesh, comics were never this hard to follow when I was a kid!

  1. I believe the current Nightcrawler is from the Age of Apocalypse universe.

  2. If I remember correctly, there was a monster in an issue of Incredible Hulk called The Nightcrawler.

  3. I think you meant "Is Nightcrawler still dead?" in paragraph 2.

[sigh] Kurt was one of my favorite X-Men, especially when he was in swashbuckler mode. I miss that.

Fun cover BTW, and great pairing. Would buy this in a heartbeat.

  6. I've always loved The Circus Of Crime . Great pairing here. (And Deadman could be a surprise guest star!)

  7. When I saw the headline, I thought, oh, you didn't just pair them because they both start with "Night," did you?

Ringmaster vs two old circus performers! Aha! Very clever. Clever being somewhat a cheapened word, I should say, I mean ingenuity, such as you've put into all these great covers.

  8. (1980s) …..the opening splash page would have Nightwing and Nightcrawler swinging high above the crowd on the tightrope, jabbering about cool it is to be performing to raise money for orphans for this circus fundraiser.

(1990s) …..Nightwing runs into Nightcrawler in Eastern Europe as he investigates a trail of missing children and international child trafficking, which leads them to this mysterious circus.

(2000s) …..Nightwing infiltrates a terrorist organization using a circus as a front, Nightcrawler shows up to bring him down!

  9. I guess it is Three Robins in 5 years, which is too much anyway. No mention of a girl Robin that I read, until now.
