Now this is a cool team that I wish we could have gotten to see more of. Like yesterdays entry with the LoEG, this is another teamed formed by pre-existing characters that share a particular genre. it was offbeat team ups and teams like the Legion of Monsters that really fueled my imagination for what other crossovers could be possible and led to this blog. Have they made any other appearances together as a team after their initial outing? I have seen more modern images of them but I am not sure if they are from a full story.
.....the '70's were wild.
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job as always. You filled the void in the middle of the original Marvel Premiere cover quite well.
ReplyDeleteI jsut saw that there is a current mini-series for the Legion of Monsters. I thought of getting it and I thumbed through it but when I saw the Living Mummy saying he was from the Legion of Monsters like it was part of a government agency I almost laughed. I guess you can't catch lightning in a bottle twice.
ReplyDeleteDave sez,
ReplyDeleteVery cool cover!
RE: Rick;s comment ~
Why is it so important that teams now either have a government liaison or work for the government? I know we're talking vigilantes here, but state sanctioned vigilantes?
What's cool is last month's Batman: The Brave and the Bold featured Batman and Zatanna at The House of Mystery with Cain and Abel pulling together a legion of monsters to beat Klarion the Witch Boy, so this team-up isn't so far off.
We just have to wait for DC and Marvel to agree on the iPad over the Kindle and Nook...
:)
"Have they made any other appearances...?" Not as such, but the name gets used quite a bit. There was a B&W magazine in mid 1975 with that title, but the characters had separate stories. The MARVEL PREMIERE #28(02/76) shipped at the end of the year as kind of a last hurrah for Marvel's horror titles since most of them would be cancelled by the fall of 1976.
ReplyDeleteSince then they've been name dropped by Fred Hembeck (lovingly) and fanzine columnists (snarkily). They had no place in the bright and shiny 1980's. In the 1990's they sat out Gerber's LEGION OF NIGHT and all that Midnight Sons stuff. Then last decade the name was used as an imprint/umbrella title for a string of one shots in 2007 and they eventually became a key element in the latest PUNISHER title at the end of 2009. I can't tell what is or isn't continuity at Marvel anymore so I didn't bother following it.
Dear Ross: am I seeing things? Or were your B&TB pastiches using the negative integer form of countdown (similar to how archeologists timeline ancient history before the Common Era)?
