This was a cover concept I've had in mind ever since I started with Marvel Two-In-One. Whenever I would see The Thing in his classic trench coat and sunglasses get up, my mind would flash back to
The Blues Brothers. Music films don't come much better than this - so many quotable lines and great performances. In this age of
Glee and
High School Musical, I really miss films like this!
Dave sez,
ReplyDeleteGreat cover! Where did you get the images of Jake and Elwood from?
I grew up on the south side of Chicago. So one of the images that is seared into my memory is a photo of Jake and Elwood in an elevator with then Mayor Jane Byrne and her daughter.
I love that movie for all of the real locations that they used around the city and suburbs. The real Dixie mall that they trashed, before it was bulldozed...
This is a great Yancy Street team-up!
Now, Blues Brothers 2000 has got to be the biggest, steaming pile ever...
I found the pic on a Google search - it may be form Mythos: Fantastic Four.
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing, I could totally see 70's Marvel doing this. I want that record too, I have great version of Hold On I'm Comin' with Ben Grim and Jake in my head.
ReplyDeleteThis is Awesome It was cool when they Showed up in Astro City
ReplyDeleteDave, I just now realized you were asking about the origin of the Blues Brothers pic, and not The Thing... I did a search for Blues Brothers Illustrations and it came up... The Thing is from Fantastic Four: Mythos.
ReplyDeleteOh, by the way, the first track on the album is "Stone Love".
