Time for another Kirby/Kirby cover. I was just getting into comics as Oliver Queen was undergoing his makeover from Batman-inspired gimmick hero to socially conscious leather wearing bearded rebel. Having Neal Adams illustrate that B&B issue gave the change a high level of legitimacy, and suddenly he had more personality than the rest of the JLA combined. It was fun seeing him bump heads with Green Lantern or Hawkman and flirt with Black Canary. His interactions made the other heroes more interesting as well.
I have enjoyed Green Arrow filling the Batman/Bruce Wayne role on Smallville as Clark Kent's non-powered superhero confidant and I am glad that the character's profile has risen as a result of his inclusion in the series. I quite enjoyed the DC Animated Short featuring Green arrow and I hope that we will more of him on the big and small screen.
Green Arrow certainly has gone from being the Bob Eucker (sp?) "runner-up, second-stringer" to serious A-Lister! A serious high profile on Smallville, Batman: The Brave and the Bold and some sort of Colbert bump in the comics. Not a big fan of what DC has been doing with either Emerald Archer or Speedy. I've always enjoyed him in the comics and I really hope DC gives us a big budget movie one day. Just as long as it's written right. No Jonah Hex treatment. Give us the Ollie we saw in that animated short and on Justice League.

Thanks - although I do wish I had found a sharper Green Arrow image, this one came out a bit fuzzy. I do more Kirby/Kirby covers coming up that work a bit better.

ReplyDeleteIt is a great layout and the two different era KIRBY images work well together.
Yeah, the obvious choice for Clark's partner in fighting crime for Smallville would be Batman, but I also like the unique presence of Ollie. It gives the character a new spin. It also gives him some exposure to viewers who aren't ass familiar with the Emerald Archer.
