The Thing and Big Barda

One of the reasons that I wanted to use Thing as the new host of this cover project was that I wanted to see if I could do some Kirby/Kirby mash-ups using some of his creations from his time at DC. Here is the first one, I have a few more all-Kirby covers waiting in the wings as well.

I was happy to see Big Barda get a lot of screen time in the recent Superman/Batman: Apocalypse animated feature. Smallville is having a Darkseid-centric season this year, so maybe she will pop up there too. The Fourth World characters seem to still be in limbo at DC for the time being, but it's only a matter of time before they are dusted off and utilized again. Hopefully when that happens, Barda and Scott Free will be front and center.

  1. Barda & Scott played a big role in recent issues of Booster Gold, tho it was a time traveling tale back to the day's of Giffen's JLI. Ross, what do you think of the "Bwa-Ha-Ha" JLI? I'd love to see them make an appearance on one of your covers....

  2. Good one, Pete!!!

I can just see Benjy saddled with the Blue and Gold! Ted and Booster. Guy, Captain Atom, Ralph, J'onn...That would be awesomeness.

The episode with Granny Goodness was pretty good. Godfrey and Desaad aren't too shabby. It would be pretty cool to see Barda and Scott...

What is up with DC "killing off" Kirby's 4th World characters? Was it a rights issue?...

  3. I think it was more about taking them off the stage for a big shiny relaunch down the line.

As for the JLI, I was a big fan when they first hit, although after a few years I did start to miss the more traditional JLA. You can count on the JLI making an appearance on this blog, as well as several of its individual members.
