Ant-Man and Doll Man
The Marvel movie I am most curious about right now is Ant-Man. It just seems like it could go either way - It seems like there will be changes from the characters we know in the comics and the departures of the original director and some actors as well have given me my doubts. On the other hand, I love the cast that has been assembled and I am sure the shrinking effects will be a lot of fun. I am still remaining cautiously optimistic on this one, hopefully we will get to see some actual footage soon.

Metal Men and Transformers in "Prime Directive"
I caught Transformers: Age of Extinction on video the other day, going in with low expectations. Even so, this movie was a disappointment. It was overly long and the usually reliable Mark Wahlberg was not enough to distinguish the plot form any of the other Transformers movies for me - it's all one big jumble at this point. I am still cringing at the scene where Wahlberg stops in the middle of a robot battle to enjoy a cold Bud Light from a crashed Bud Light delivery truck - just shameless.

Kamandi and Rima
I remember noting that Rima was one of the few heroines able to make the leap from comics to animation with her appearances on The Super Friends. I always thought that would bring her new levels of popularity, but I don't remember seeing her anywhere for decades after that. It's too bad, her short-lived comic was beautifully illustrated by the likes of Nestor Redondo and Joe Kubert.

Captain America Vs. Enemy Ace
One of the great things about Captain America is that he is a character that works equally well in two time periods. His wartime adventures are exciting and truly bring out the soldier aspect of the hero. His present day stories are expand upon those early adventures and show how a man out of time reacts to the struggles of the current era. I loved Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but I would not have minded another adventure set in World War II. The good news is we will still get a taste of that with the upcoming Agent Carter TV series.

Superman and The Black Terror
The Black Terror is one of those Golden Age characters that I never got around to reading - but I was always intrigued by his cool looking costume. I must not be the only one because now that the character is in the public domain, many a comic publishing company has featured him in their stories. I checked him out in the Dynamite series, Project Superpowers by Jim Kreuger and Alex Ross and he was pretty cool there.

Calvin & Hobbes and Tintin (Part Two)
Tintin and Calvin and Hobbes are two of the most re-readable characters for me. Herge and Bill Watterson filled their adventures with such imagination and gorgeous artwork that there is always something new to discover. I am glad that their works are kept in print so that new generations can be inspired by their creations.

Calvin & Hobbes and Tintin (Part One)
This pairing was a request of my beautiful niece Malena, who just turned 10. She was already a big Calvin and Hobbes fan and is now reading the Tintin stories that I loved when I was her age. Of course, a team-up this epic in nature cannot be contained within a single issue, so stay tuned for the thrilling conclusion tomorrow!

Justice League of America Vs.The Marvel Universe
For past anniversary issues, I have gone with the multiple stories approach that emulated the DC 100-Page Giant comics of my youth. This time around, I thought I would go for one big story. I can imagine this is the type of tale that would feature chapters drawn by different top artists of the day. And now to start the march towards #1000...

Jade & Obsidian and Cloak & Dagger
Jade and Obsidian were a couple of great legacy heroes, and it is too bad that the New 52 Reboot left no room for them. Hopefully they will make a return some day via Multiversity or some other reality altering story line.
If the Marvel / Netflix shows are a hit, I wouldn't be surprised to see Cloak and Dagger join the ranks of potential series. They would fit right in with the other characters being developed there.
Stay tuned tomorrow for STF #900!

Green Lantern and Gollum
This is another one of those stories that I think would pretty much just write itself. I remember seeing the animated Lord of the Rings in the movie theater when I was a kid, and I was just the right age for it. I loved that it was a more adult cartoon than I had been used to seeing and I was blown away by the rotoscoping effects. I have seen it many times since, and I understand why Tolkein purists and others have their issues with it, but for my 9 year old self it was awesome to watch.

Booster Gold & Blue Beetle battle The Sentinels
Fans of the Pre-New 52 DC Universe should be happy to hear that at least a couple of heroes from that reality are returning to comics. Keith Giffen has announced that Booster Gold and Blue Beetle will be joining the cast of Justice League 3000 through some sort of time travel shenanigans. Giffen was responsible for many of the Blue & Gold team's classic moments, so I think this is a very interesting development. Could it pave the way for some more of DC's lost characters to return?

Superman and Spider-Man in "Scoop of the Year"
I still remember seeing ads for the "Team-Up of the Century" as it was called when Superman and Spider-Man first met. I just had to get this over-sized book, but I never once saw it on sale anywhere - this was years before I ever set for into a comic book shop, so my only options were a few local grocery stores and magazine stands. In fact, I think I wound up getting a copy to the sequel before ever reading the first pairing. it was well over a decade before I finally got my hands on a copy. It was well worth the wait, but I can only imagine how bowled over I would have been if I had gotten the chance to read it when it was originally released.

Swamp Thing and Tarzan
I have a feeling that these two would get along well. Both are very in tune with their environments and act as protectors of their land. Neither are very talkative, but I am sure they would find kindred spirits in one another - and when the action starts... the bad guys had better look out!

Captain Marvel and Storm
DC made a big announcement that The Rock would be playing Black Adam in an upcoming Shazam! movie, but there has been very little additional information released since then. While the villain casting is perfect, I would like to hear about a director and who will be playing Blly Batson and Captain Marvel to get a better idea of the direction the film is going in. A lighter tone that doesn't skimp an the stakes and action is what I would like to see. Let's just hope the climactic moment isn't Cap snapping Sivana's neck!

Supergirl Vs. Rogue
I have already indicated that Supergirl and Ms. Marvel are sisters in the STF-verse in a few past covers, so this is a confrontation that was bound to happen sooner or later.
Supergirl is the latest in the ongoing list of upcoming TV series. This one I have to admit I didn't see coming. I wonder if they will be connecting it to the big screen adventures of her famous cousin? Hopefully they will find the right balance of action and drama.

Boba Fett saves The DC Universe
Of all of the proposed Star Wars movie spin-offs, I am most interested in where the producers will go with Boba Fett. His back story is vague enough that they can go in many different directions. Will they turn him into an anti-hero once he is the star of his own feature, or will he be able to maintain his villainous edge? Will they hire a big name actor to portray Fett, ensuring minimal time in the helmet? Only time will tell.

Teen Titans and The Human Torch
DC has been fast and furious with its TV announcements lately and one of the biggest surprises was that a Titans series is in the works. Not much in the way of details has been released, but it looks to be following the Marv Wolfman / George Perez era team as Nightwing, Starfire and Raven and are confirmed members of the team. It seems like an ambitious project, but I can't pass judgment until I learn more about it. Hopefully a TV budget will still allow for plenty of heroics.

All-Star Squadron and The Sub-Mariner
I was looking over some issues of All-Star Squadron the other day and it struck me what a value each issue was. Not only did you get lot's of heroes for your money, and great artwork by the likes of Jerry Ordway, Adrian Gonzales and Joe Kubert, the stories themselves were very dense. Roy Thomas's love and knowledge of comics' golden age was clear with his very detailed scripts. The artist were up to the task of interpreting his tales, and it was not uncommon to find 6 or more panels per page. These comics felt like a full meal, not just a snack like too many of today's series with decompressed writing and large paneled pages that seem more concerned about original art resale than storytelling.

Power Man and Icon
I always thought it was odd that DC's Milestone Imprint was separated from the mainstream DCU titles when it first hit the scene. I can understand the creators wanting to stake out their own territory, but in the end I think that decision hurt sales. Many years later, the Milestone characters were more fully integrated into the DCU, with appearances in Justice League and Teen Titans, but perhaps it was a case of too little too late because they didn't seem to make much of a splash. It's too bad because there are a lot of cool characters to be mined. Let's hope they get some more chances to shine.

Daredevil and Usagi Yojimbo
A great thing about the comic community - fans and pros alike - is that they stick together in times of need. One such instance is the with Stan Sakai, the creator of Usagi Yojimbo. Sakai's wife has been battling a debilitating brain tumor, and to help with the substantial medical bills, many talented artists have contributed original art featuring his most famous creation. The art was auctioned off and many of the pieces are featured in The Sakai Project, a publication produced in association with The Comic Art Professional Society. All of the proceeds from this over-sized book got to Stan and Sharon Sakai, and it can be ordered here:
