The Lanterns series ended with a thud. Some spoilers follow:
Hal is still dead and the secret to his murder was unsatisfying and insulting to the character - not to mention his killer faced no repercussions. The last three episodes had zero constructs and lots of "tell, don't show moments", where action takes a back seat to talking heads. John has a ring now, but he stole it off of Hal's corpse and it's tainted by Sinestro's yellow energy with a new oath that doesn't include confronting evil. Is John going to become Parallax? I don't know if I even care anymore. What a waste of great actors and characters.
This is Iron Man's first team up with John Stewart on the blog, but he's met Hal Jordan and the Corps before:
Hal and Tony did some Weapons Testing in STF #1209,
They first clashed way back in Issue #33...
It was Iron Man's turn to take the upper hand in their next meeting...
Finally they fought side by side in their third outing...
And Stark joined the Corps in their last adventure.

Let's put it this way, Ross. I stopped expecting non-print miracles from DC after the sci-fi series "Krypton" starring a dummed-down Adam Strange. And which I therefore consider to have been two seasons, too long.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I enjoyed both seasons and thought the show had potential. But realistically you're probably right. A third season would have been disappointing 😔.
Delete*dumbed-down (ironic;)
DeleteNot irony. Grammatical accuracy. "Dumb" technically means mute. I used the three-letter slang term that's more commonly used to denote apparent stupidity.
DeleteIn answer to the cover question? The answer is obviously Gregor Tropanka! Initially called "Jack Frost," but who later changed his alias to Blizzard. And, given that there's a directional sign to Pasadena in the background, he's just as obviously in California going after Carol Ferris! Is StarkWest discussing some kind of merger with Ferris Aircraft (if we were to treat this as a prequel to STF #1209)?
ReplyDeleteYes, my first thought was Blizzard, as well. For some reason, though, I suspect it's actually Captain Cold.
DeleteAs back-up for his sister, the Golden Glider, utilizing the GL Corps weakness against the color yellow? Maybe! But, only if they'd been hired to abduct Ferris by some mutual industrial rival...like Roxxon or Lexcorp.
DeleteYou've got a point, Anon. Either one of those outfits would probably fear the economic repercussions of a Stark/Ferris merger. Which would make this an even better prequel to STF #1209!
DeleteOkay... a very strange cover (but I like it!), so when and where did John Stewart become Mr. Plow in sunny Pasadena?
ReplyDelete@my namesake: maybe when Hal Jordan was on an interstellar sabbatical?
DeleteWould like to see Tony Stark's core be a hacked lantern. Could have GL's following him around to recharge their rings.
ReplyDeleteThese days its like a Green Wristwatch to a Phone.
I really wish I understood why DC-who has a solid GL story in Emerald Dawn (1) to introduce the Lantern concept to more casual comic book fans-refuse to adapt it.
ReplyDeleteThe modified version with Hector Hammond was the most recent recon telling Hal's origin, but flawed against ED and the GL movie tried to do too much as an introduction to GL.
Lanterns has every right to be its own take-the multiverse is huge and the variations are infinite.
But bad writing-combined with the VFX budget of setting up a roadside lemonade stand-are something that will ruin any story.
Sad but true.
Deletethe minute Hal died, the ring looks for a new user. The recent mini series based on DC was like a watered down version of a Marvel show. not fulfilling. good cover idea.
ReplyDeleteWell, of course the killer faced no accountability--don't you know that accountability was made up by the white male elite to keep themselves in power?😉
ReplyDeleteNice cover, though.
Re: the Guardians of the Universe? That would be blue male elite.

ReplyDelete"Lanterns" was just another example of what I unapologetically call George Lucas Syndrome. Fixing what was never, ever broken to begin with!
