The Spectre in the Marvel Universe
Just how different would things have turned out if this guy showed up on Battleworld during the first Secret Wars? Who knows, but it certainly would have been fun to read about!
True Story: way, waaaaaaaaay back in the early '90s, when DC Comics had their own dedicated fan site, complete with message boards (one for each separate title being published at the time), there was a youngish participant -- about age 12, if I had to guesstimate -- who never let pass even a single opportunity to remind us, one and all, that the X-Men's Gambit was actually "way more powerful than the Spectre, because if Gambit ever touched him, he'd blow up."
@Anon557: Lol. By that criterion, Roy"the Human Bomb" Lincoln would've been more powerful than Gambit! The innocence of youth, indeed. :-)
@Ross: nice job on the blending. Reminds me of the DCU heroes amassed against Dr. Manhattan at the climax of "Doomclock" (or whatever that mini-series was called where Rorschach got to meet the Question).
Also, I remember those boards lasting into a little of the early '00s. I remember being there to discuss Luthor winning the presidential election, the canceling of the Aquaman comic that had been running since 1994, and there was even a BIG push at the time to bring Freakazoid into the main DCU and have him join Young Justice!
@Anon329: that wouldn't have been possible via those DC message boards. As The Mask was still the intellectual property of Dark Horse Comics at the time!
@Carycomic from 8:05AM---it still might work, though! Take the Masked Marauder's original version of the Tri-Man. Perform some modifications. Combine Gambit's kinetic energy-charging powers with Shadowcat's intangibility-phasing and the self-gigantism of Rita "Elasti-Girl" Farr inside of it and...voila!
Great cover as always…. So I have a couple of heavy hitters I’d like you to try and make covers for….how about… Beta Ray Bill taking on Battle Beast Hyperion vs Mr. Majestic Samaritan vs Homelander And lastly… Captain Atom taking on Photon (from Youngblood) Thanks for your consideration and all the hard work you continue to produce!!

ReplyDeleteAh, youth. ;)

Actually, Rorschach never met the Question in that limited series. More's the pity! :-(
Delete@Carycomic Doomsday Clock, I believe, is the name you're searching for.

DeleteDid they ever do the same kind of push for The Mask (during the three-season run of his Saturday morning cartoon series)?

Delete@Anon1002: don't you mean "Moore's the pity"? ;-)
Delete@Carycomic: you're half-right. I pity that pun more!
DeleteThanks, Ben. :-)
ReplyDeleteThe Spectre with She-Hulk, maybe.. but with Spider-Man??YES!! That would be incredible! and with Captain America? interesting.

Or, failing that, I'd settle for Armless Tiger Man vs Arms-Fall-Off Boy! That is; if you don't mind such a disarming suggestion.
