These guys ought to fight the Quarrymen from Disney's Gargoyles for ripping off their name and simultaneously persecuting either a racial minority or an endangered species (whichever way you want to look at the Gargoyles themselves); giving their group a bad name.
@Ross: I'm afraid I never heard of Giella except for Joe (a legendary inker for DC Comics). And you couldn't have been referring to Guilala from Shochiku's THE X FROM OUTER SPACE (1967). Because that kaiju basically resembled a giant-sized cross between Gonzo the Muppet and Machine Head the Freefall Warrior! So, I'm stumped.
@Anon501: Ross _was_ referring to the late, great Mr. Giella as the inker who worked on that kaiju image. But, personally, I still think it looks more like Droom than Foom.
Seeing Blok, I always think of Broot and that one Green Lantern that also looks like them. I know there are other rock and mineral characters out there like Amethyst. Jack Kirby's early designs of The Thing would be good here too.
Wolverine's little nickname for the Brood? I love it! The only thing (arguably) scarier than them would be an army of Freakazoid clones...infected with the Carrion Virus.
A blase-looking Blok seems to be taking poor Benjamin's safety somewhat for granite.
ReplyDeleteFin fang foom??
ReplyDeleteEither that or Tohosaurus.
DeleteThat's what I unofficially called Godzilla's post-1970s guest appearances in Marvel Comics after the expiration of the licensing deal with Toho.
DeleteMaybe Badrock could visit the town of Bedrock.
ReplyDeleteWith him and Chubby Checker as judges at a Twitching contest.
Delete"There's a town I know where the hipsters go called Bedrock.
TWITCH! TWITCH!"
The Quarrymen? Where are John and Paul?
ReplyDeleteWhy, hanging out with the Ringo Kid, of course!
DeleteBut, they have not yet begun to gunfight.

ReplyDeleteI was thinking about these guys the other day, and how they might some time feature Stone Boy as a guest member.
ReplyDeleteAlso, maybe they could deal with a coalition of Titan (from Invincible), Tombstone, and perhaps others.
Very smart cover, but I take it the dragon is not Fin Fang Foom, it seems to be either Giella or Stone am I right, which one?

DeleteAs in "Droom The Living Lizard" from TALES TO ASTONISH v.1/#9.

DeleteWhere is Stone Boy who has been around longer than most of these Blokheads?
ReplyDeleteHe won't be born until another 985 years or so.
ReplyDeleteBy which point, Duck Dodgers might be using him for a bird bath (while singing "King For A Day") !

"I---am---Broot."
DeleteHey! There's an idea. The Omega Men meet the Guardians of the Galaxy! I can just hear Rocket Raccoon making the introductions.
ReplyDelete"Groot? Broot. Broot? Groot!"
LuckyDay, you're a genius. :-)
Oh man, what an idea! Crisis on Rann and Thanagar as the Sleazoids invade.

Deleteis Pebles Flintstone going to be their mascot?

DeleteWouldn't Strata, the L.E.G.I.O.N. member from Blok's homeworld, be more year-appropriate (with no time-travel needed) for for this team?
ReplyDeleteYeah, that might be gneiss.
