James Gunn seems to gravitate towards teams of oddball characters, so I think that The Metal Men are definite candidates for inclusion in his DCU. You could make a Pixar-style animated movie with them or even a live action film with todays special effects. I hope they show up somewhere.
I won't hold my breath waiting for Hollywood to develop the good sense to make such a movie. But, I will cross my fingers that tomorrow we'll see a part 2 to this cover. One featuring Magnus the Robot Fighter fighting _alongside_ the Metal Men. After all, in January, it'll be exactly fourteen years since the one-and-only time you've teamed them up, thus far (way back @ STF #26)!
