Superman and Triton
I always liked the design of Triton. As much as I enjoyed Aquaman and Namor as characters, Triton's appearance seemed to make a lot more sense for a hero that spends his time beneath the waves. Plus, he just looked really cool!
When drawn by The King, he was most definitely cool! But, in this one, he looks like he was drawn by somebody else. Because, he looks more like the Gill Man from the Black Lagoon grimacing from a hernia!
I came here to say this. The editors at DC didn't like Jack's original take on Supes so they had someone, I think Curt Swan, redraw his face. He was angry about this but cashed the cheque. They made up for it with the Super Powers collection giving him total autonomy on his redo of friend Alex Toth's designed Super Friends (which rights were tied up with ABC) which was a good seller and gave him a piece of the merchandise which was quite generous.
Can I make a suggestion? How about two Shadow/Supermanthened ideas? One a retro crossover at the start of the Golden Age Superman 's career, amd perhaps another one where the Shadow meets a more modern Superman, perhaps the DCAU or MAWS Superman, with the mystery of why the Shadow has returned after all this time.
Great pairing. Well done.

A behemoth, eh? Then it has to be either Fin Fang Foom...or the Death-dealer From The Dead Sea!
ReplyDeleteOooh! Can you guys imagine FFF vs. DDDS? Or, better yet, maybe even the two of them _vs._ Mr. Universe!!!

ReplyDeleteRyu, there is indeed a Superman/Shadow cover in the pipeline
ReplyDeleteRoss, Triton teams with J.O. Giant Turtle Boy. No cavern needed.
ReplyDeleteHow about Giant Turtle Jimmy vs. Black Goliath?
Delete@Anon712: I'd buy that for sixty cents! :-)
