Green Arrow and The Phantom

I had to de-clutter the original Phantom cover before I could add in Green Arrow to the mix.  Here's a look at the behind the scenes progress:

  1. Reminds me of Captain Quint's anecdote concerning the U.S.S. Indianapolis.

"A shark's got black eyes. Lifeless eyes...like a doll's eyes.Till they bite you and they roll over white."

    Well done, Ross. :-)

  2. No word balloons! I'm surprised!

    1. No word balloons needed; the title is enough. It's probably even a broad hint that the chemistry between the two is one of mutual respect behind friendly bickering.

@Ross: I woke up this morning wanting to see Black Lightning and the Care Bears in "Shock and Awwwww!"

    2. Besides which, there were no word balloons on the original artwork from Charlton Comics. Only the identity of the antagonist in the issue's original title: "GOLDBEARD THE PIRATE."

  4. "What was that about shooting fish in a barrel?" Guess I needed a second cup of coffee this AM. Read all instructions before operating machinery. But seriously, excellent surgery on clearing out the background on the original cover Ross. And just the friction between Green Arrow and the Phantom would make for a great story.

    1. I remember an episode of the Canadian sci-fi series "Sanctuary" (starring a post-SG1 Amanda Tapping) where the origins of Green Arrow and the Phantom were rather cleverly conflated by a crime-fighting insurance claims adjuster as a means of hiding the true source of his sudden super-powers. I miss that show!

  5. So, with that title, which one is Ollie and which one is Stanley?

  6. Stanley's the one with the big pink Bigfoot only he can see. ;-)

  7. Kit & Ollie...would Hal be jealous? After the swim, a hot bowl of chili? No mentions of Bruce by either. Ollie's start on an island for training. Reminds me of Batman & Mister Miracle on the Brave & the Bold series on the roller coaster of death. Classic!!

  8. You know what would be a perfect sequel to this cover? Namor and GL Hal Jordan vs. Silver Age King Shark!*

*The one who briefly posed as "Karshon of Atlantis."
