Deadman and Tarzan
If I saw this on the stands I might wonder how Boston Brand found himself working alongside the King of the Apes. The chance to see this offbeat pairing illustrated by the legendary Neal Adams would be enough for me to want to pick it up, however.
Maybe they met through Amethyst, Princess of Gemworld. That was drawn by Neal Adams, at some point, as I recall. And, as Lee Falk's Phantom is a jungle hero who's been published by both Charlton and Moonstone (among other indie outfits, past and present), I'd have him be the link between Deadman and Tarzan! For instance?
Deadman learns that the Tseng Brotherhood is after archaeologist Aaron Piper (aka "Spookman"). So, he take over Kit Walker XXI in order to warn the guy. Only for a gunfight to break out at Piper's museum. With everyone winding up in the Moonstone Kingdom of Gemworld! So, they have to get a magical assist from Princess Amethyst in order to get home.
Taking over Tarzan would be a rare opportunity for Deadman to possess a physical body that, for once, would be even more physically fit than his own ever was despite a lack of super powers. He might be tempted to keep it, if he is ever prone to such temptations at all.
Ah, Horsefeathers! Is there an Ultra-Human in that crowd? To bad you can't give Boston TWO twin brothers instead of one then you could have him in 3-D. H.H. and awwwaaayyyy!
...Tarzan never actually could command the animals, could he... It's just been Boston Brand, possessing each animal Tarzan gives a command to, and making the jungle Lord THINK he's commanding them, all along...
P.S.---if I'm not mistaken, this was the cover art Neal Adams did for a paperback reprint of ERB's "The Beasts of Tarzan" (featuring the ruthless Russian spy, Rokoff).
Try Tarzan with The Juagar from Archie of the 60's. Maybe a...a "league" of mind communicators, like Aquaman, Hawkman, Ant-man, Wasp, & Juaguar. Just mind those thoughts.

Only Boston to wind up in Depression-era Gabon.
Maybe Gena Lee Nolan’s Sheena could meet Ron Eloy’s Tarzan; Ron Ely played a villain in Gena Lee Nolan’s “Sheena”.
ReplyDeleteYet another "unexpected" team-up; I like it. (And I like Carycomic's suggested backstory for it, too...)
ReplyDeleteHere's a suggestion for another team-up that I don't think we've seen so far. DC's Zatanna and Marvel's Satanna.
@Simereeve: thank you! :-)
ReplyDelete@Anonymous: I think it might be easier for Ross to find photo-captures of Tanya Roberts' Sheena.
P.S. @ Simreeve & Anonymous: didn't Dynamite Entertainment already publish a Tarzan/Sheena crossover?

ReplyDeleteThese is only one human in image so would assume Deadman will borrow Conan's body to participate. I supposed spear holders are human.
ReplyDeleteDo not remember if Deadman has ever inhabited a sentient non-human like an ape before.
Why not? If Dr Sam Beckett could do it EYE don't see Y? Boston couldn't Leap in.

ReplyDeleteLove the covers Adams did for Ballantine's Tarzan line. Nice choice

ReplyDeleteTrue. Canonically, ERB's Tarzan could only converse with primates (great apes and monkeys, primarily).

ReplyDeleteOr, failing all that, how about Jaguar (nee Ralph Hardy) crossing paths with the Black Cat (Felicia Hardy)?
DeleteDet_Tobor says: Nah, Probably wind up Barking up the wrong tree!
DeleteOnly if it were a dogwood.
