I still remember Robin Williams' first appearance as Mork on a episode of
Happy Days. It made a big impression and I distinctly recall the kids at school discussing it at school the next morning. I was at the right age to really get a kick out of his antics, so I thought that it was cool to see him cast as
Popeye a few years later. He and Shelley DuVall really embodied their roles in that one, still two of my favorite comic book character performances ever.
Cool cover!
ReplyDeleteI never knew Mork & Mindy ended on such an insane cliffhanger. I think I stopped watching it after a couple of seasons. Right around the time they had their kid and it turned out to be Jonathan Winters. Shame that it was never resolved...
Delightfully zany concept; HTD and Mork. :-)
ReplyDeleteBut, who's the dog?
Cosmo - he's a Marvel Dog that made his live action debut in Guardians of the Galaxy.
ReplyDeleteHoward the Duck and Mork...? Nope. Never would have seen that one coming. Never in a million years. That doesn't mean that I don't like it, but nope. Never would have seen that one coming....
ReplyDeleteBy the way, speaking of the Popeye movie, I also loved the performance of Ray Walston as Poopdeck Pappy. Coincidentally, he also played an alien in the TV sitcom My Favorite Martian....
Sonofjack Well- So you're saying that Uncle Martin was Mork's father? Somehow, that makes sense (and I'm embarrassed that I never thought of it before).
ReplyDeleteThe Popeye movie had a certain bizarre brilliance to it, even if not everything quite worked- it's too bad it didn't do better.
Compliment and request (but not an easy one....)
ReplyDeleteLoved the light-hearted nature of the covers from today and yesterday. Wish a lot more modern comics would be this fun. (Hey, DC! Marvel has Squirrel Girl and Howard the Duck and Moongirl.... Get with it!)
Second, I came looking for a cover I was *sure* would be here but it isn't. Can't believe it's never been requested although I'm sure that putting together covers with two teams is a challenge. But how about bringing together the Marvel and DC teams where villains "break good" and do a cover with the Thunderbolts and the Suicide Squad?
DC has Harley Quinn and Ambush Bug. They don't need any more "comic" relief.
DeleteI've considered it, but just haven't come up with anything to my satisfaction yet. I like both teams a lot though, at least their original line ups.
ReplyDeleteThe art style of SS and early Thunderbolts was so different. It would make that a challenge.
ReplyDeleteThe Collector would love Doing, Mork's dog from the cartoon.
ReplyDeleteHow about Woody Allen's dog from SLEEPER?
ReplyDelete"My-name-is-Rags. Woof-woof!"
Alf meets Streaky the Supercat (that's meets, not eats)
ReplyDeleteRegarding that last Anonymous suggestion, the title of that meeting could be a variation of the parenthetical.
ReplyDeleteI second SonofJack's motion. But, only if there were a part two showing Alf being cornered by a vengeance-seeking Catwoman! I can just picture Alf's word balloon on the "cover," now.
ReplyDelete"I'll become a vegetarian. I SWEAR!"
Catwoman vs. ALF? That's probably just bizarre enough to appeal to Ross. :-)
ReplyDeleteCary and anonymous 2,
ReplyDeleteI suggested Streaky because I thought Alf vs. Catwoman would be too farfetched. But I like anon 2's vengeance idea.
How about it, Ross?
