The Black Widow and The Spirit

The Spirit always did have a knack for letting a beautiful woman get him into trouble...

Of course, his biggest trouble will be getting audiences to forget his poorly received movie so he can get another chance one of these days.  Will Eisner's artwork and inventive use of the comic page is what always stood out to me about the character, so I'd love to see an animated version that could really highlight those aspects.

Wow, who did the Spirit's artwork. Denny looks like he's turning into Corben's Den. That would b a trick. Ross, have you ever teamed up Black Widow with Talia Al Ghul. I always thought she was Widow's natural DC equivalent.

Who else? His Creator, Will Eisner (Check the labels below the covers, that's where I list the artists). Talia/Widow does indeed sound like a good combo!

Corben did in fact airbrush paint some Spirit stories and covers back when Warren magazines was reprinting them, so Corben painted colour over Eisner art does exist.

I like the premise using his weakness for the fairer sex against him. It leads me to propose a team concept for you, Ross. How about a team of "babe-hounds?" The Spirit would be a natural, along with Daredevil (he's had a lot of girlfriends), Nightwing (also lots of exes), James Bond 007 (duh), and maybe a couple others. Would they be called Babe-Hounds? Ladykillers? You get the gist.

The Spirit magazine back in the '70's was the only Warren magazine I would buy.

@Cliff-Thanks for the info. Now we have to partition Corben into doing a modern day take on the Spirit. Just keep Frank Miller away from it! :-)

The Spirit's 1987 unsold TV pilot was much better. It bordered on Batman '66-style goofiness, but then, so did Eisner's Spirit at times. Unfortunately, I can't find the whole movie online, although I do still have the VHS recording I made when it first aired.

Who will be the FIRST to greenlight an R-Rated animated film, in the tradition of Heavy Metal, Fritz The Cat and Fire&Ice. The Spirit would be my first candidate for such a treatment. We finally have an R-Rated superhero movie with Deadpool. How long will it be for an animation??

Some of the animators who helped out Ralph Bakshi with Seasons 2 and 3 of the 1960's Spidey cartoon _must_ have passed on _some_ of their techniques to one protege' or another.

Every Willis O'Brien has a Ray Harryhausen.
